As part of a project week organised by Quantinum Lernwelten Herrliberg, eight students had the opportunity to discover the world of landscape gardening and gain valuable first-hand experience of the profession.
A Week of Hands-On Experience
Throughout the week, the students worked alongside the BONT team, gaining an authentic insight into the day-to-day work of professional landscapers and experiencing the wide variety of skills involved in creating and maintaining outdoor spaces.
One of the main projects was the replanting of a slope, including the planting of a tree. The programme also included a visit to a tree nursery, where the students learned about different plant species, selecting the right plants for specific locations and the importance of proper care.
There were plenty of opportunities to get hands-on, too. The students helped create planting areas, weld a rose trellisand try their hand at various smaller welding tasks. Working with different tools and materials allowed them to develop their practical skills and experience the craftsmanship that is an essential part of landscape gardening.
Just as valuable was the personal interaction with the BONT team. Whether over lunch or while working together, the students had the chance to talk to our employees about vocational training, their experiences in the profession and the many different career opportunities within horticulture and landscaping.
To round off the week, the students helped with preparations to refresh the barefoot trail – a joint project by Quantinum Lernwelten and BONT Gartenbau that had originally been created two years earlier.
Lasting Impressions and New Perspectives
The project week highlighted just how valuable practical experience can be for young people exploring their future career options. By getting actively involved, the students were able not only to put their practical abilities to the test, but also to discover how varied, creative and closely connected to nature a career in landscape gardening can be.
For BONT, the project week was a wonderful opportunity to bring education and professional practice together while giving young people an authentic insight into our industry. At the same time, initiatives like this make an important contribution to inspiring the next generation of skilled professionals in our region.
